Low flying object clips light pole at McAndrews overpass.

September 17, 1998

Sometime late Thursday evening, a low flying object clipped one of the street lights located on the McAndrews overpass.  The down pole was reported to the Medford 911 center around 10:00 pm by a passing motorist.  Because the pole was knocked in towards the street, Medford International Airport was contacted to see if any aircraft had been reported missing in the area or reported hitting anything.  The Airport reported that no aircraft were missing and that nothing unusual had been reported by air traffic controllers.  An engineer for the Pacific and Eastern Railroad said that the light had been visible when he was switching cars at Republic Industries at approximately 8:30 pm that evening.  Workers contacted by Medford Police at Republic Industries Trucking were unable to give any additional information as to what might have crashed into the light pole.  City Utility crews will be replacing the pole and light within the next several days.
