November 11th, 1998 Board meeting:
Committee Reports: Library - there has been much discussion, but no decision has been made as yet, on what to do with the RVMRC magazine collection. The plan is to revisit this topic at the January 1999 General Membership meeting. Standards - Dave Carr reported that during the past year, too many cars have shown up on the layout for OP sessions without being checked in by the Standards Committee. Next year there will be random checks of all equipment. Cars not meeting standards or in need of repairs will be removed from the layout. So, now (while the layout is down for the annual show) is a good time to check your cars and locomotives. This topic of poorly performing rolling stock, resulting from their not meeting standard as set by the RVMRC and/or the need of repairs, has been discussed at meetings and in the newsletter a number of times over the past year or longer. As of the first operating session in January 1999, there will be no exceptions and no more excuses. Electrical - Dave Hall reported that the wiring of the coach yard has been upgraded and it is ready for the November RR show. Plans are still in place for installing relays in the yards while the modules are "down" for the November and December. The narrow gauge modules have been brought out of storage and will be part of the layout at the November RR Show. Bill Leininger and Don Pettit (with the assistance of the Electrical Committee) checked out the NG modules and did some wiring repairs to eliminate some of the major problems. More work needs to be done, but at least the modules are operable for the upcoming show. ************************************** New ATLAS catalog - Dave Carr mentioned that the new Atlas catalog is now out and at some of the hobby stores in the Rogue Valley. Maybe some items that could be added to your Holiday Season "Wish List". One that has my attention is a GE "U-boat" painted for the MONON Railroad, two different numbers I am told. Monon had eight GE U-23B's (#601-608). |
